Each player plays his/her own ball for each hole and the best score for each hole out of the 3 is the score for the team. Players do not have to finish each hole if a low score for the team is determined before every player has finished the hole. Note: Gimmies are not allowed.

The President's Cup (match) 18 holes
This is a match play format tournament. Member's wishing to participate in this should signup on a sheet posted on the board at the club house. The signup sheet should have the date posted when the tournament is to start, persons name and phone # so they can be contacted. The last date to signup should be the day before the tournament starts, so you can set up the matches on the Chart.
The current handicap of each player is used to set up the matches and remains the same for the duration of the tournament.
To set up the matches on the Chart, the lowest handicap is matched with the highest handicap. The second lowest is matched with the second highest and so forth until all participants have been matched. When there are players with the same handicap I used the first one to signup on the sheet for the top bracket.
Each match should be played on or before the date you specify or the players can be disqualified. If the match is all tie after 18 holes, then the players must play 9 more holes or until the match is won. As the matches are played, the winner of the match will write his/her name in the next bracket on the Chart. It is equally the responsibility of the participants to make contact with the person they are matched up with to play their match on time. Score cards must be turned in to the Tournament Director.
Prizes for this tournament is the winners name on the Presidents Cup Trophy (He keeps for 1 year)
And any other if the Tournament Committee so chooses. Runner-up is to get a prize of the Tournament Committee choosing, to be awarded at the Fall Awards Meeting.

The Flag Day Tournament (9 holes) or (18 holes)
Members do not have to signup for this, but it should be posted on the board for the date to be held.
This is an individual format tournament with 3 or 4 in a group. (Handicap does not mater)
There can be 1, 2, or 3 places for prizes. (That is up to you)
The tournament has to start on Hole #1 and go on until each player has used up his/ hers strokes. The strokes consist of the PAR for the course plus there handicap. The first group will carry the flags and will place the flag in the ground where their ball landed when they used up all their strokes. If participants in the next group still have strokes left when they reach the flag, they advance the flag to where the ball lands after they have used up all there strokes and so on and so on until all players have used up all their strokes and the flags have been advanced, that is the end of the tournament.
The first place winner is the one that advanced the flag the farthest.
Second place is next closest and third next to that. (If you have 3 places)
Note: If prizes for this are cash paid on the day of the tournament then no other prizes will be awarded at the Fall Awards Meeting.

The Robert Heald Memorial (9 holes) or (18 holes)
Members do not have to signup for this tournament, but it should be posted on the board at the club house.
This is a Best Ball format with teams of 3 or 4 players consisting of, 2 Men and 1 Woman or 3 Men and 1 Woman. If there are not enough women for each team then the team will be all men. Each team should have close to the same handicap total as possible.
Each player hits their ball and then the team decides their Best Ball. The player, whose ball was chosen as the best, does not hit from that spot. The player shall mark the spot and remove his ball. The other team players will hit their own ball from that spot and once again a Best Ball is chosen by the team, the ball is marked, that player does not hit again. The other team members hit their own ball from the marked spot.
Once on the Green, the team chooses the Best Ball and marks it. Everyone now gets a chance to putt from that spot. The Best Ball is marked and played from that spot until some one holes out. If the Best Ball from the Tee is on the Green, then everyone putts. The score is recorded for the team.
The names of the winning team will be printed on the “Robert Heald Memorial" plaque.
Prizes for this tournament are awarded at the Fall Awards Meeting.

Ladies Day (Wednesdays)
Guidelines
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Twilight League
Starts the first Thursday at 6 PM after the course is opened for play and ends on the last Thursday before we change the clocks to Daylight Savings Time.
The format can be anything the Tournament Director/Committee wants it to be. In the past we have had 3 pots, one for the main event with a $1 entry fee, one for closest to the PIN (0.25 fee) and one for the least number of putts total (0.25 fee).
Most of the time, this is played as a team effort with each team consisting of 3 or 4 members. The teams are set up to have as close a total handicap as possible. If the number of participants does no work out to have teams, then it is played as an individual scoring event and the pot is split according to places paid for the event.
Instead of using the strokes for each holes score, the participants are playing for points. This is how the points are scored: Double Bogie = 0; Bogie = 1 point; Par = 2 points; Birdie = 3 points; Eagle = 4 Points and A Hole-n-One = 5 points. The team with the most points for 9 holes wins and the pot is split between them. The pot can also be split between the first and second place. (This is up to the Tournament Director/ Committee.
Closest to the pin:
The player who's “Tee Shot” is on the green of the “Money Hole” and is the closest one to the “Pin”, wins the “Money Hole” pot.
For closest to the PIN (A.K.A. “THE MONEY HOLE”), #1 hole is used the first Thursday, #5 hole is used on the second Thursday and #9 hole is used on the third Thursday. This rotation continues for each Thursday that Twilight League is played. If no one wins the “MONEY HOLE” the pot can be held over for the next Thursday and added to the new “MONEY HOLE” pot or whatever the Tournament Director/Committee is so inclined to do with it.
Lowest Putts:
Each player (once on the green) counts the number of putts; he/she makes to hole out. This score is for the individual player, not for the team. If a player, chips in the hole from off the green, the score is 0 putts for that hole. The person with the lowest putt score wins the “Putts Pot”. If there is a tie, the pot can be split.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tie Breakers
If there is a tie for first place in any of the tournaments it is up to the Tournament Director/Committee to determine how the tie will be handled. (e.g. - Play more holes to break the tie; Split first place equally; Award duplicate prizes)

Please feel free to participate in the Tournaments and Twilight League events. The more participants, the more fun everyone has. Join in and meet other members, learn tips on how to improve your game from other members or offer some advice that might help them. If you think you do not play well enough to participate in the clubs events, please think again. If you can swing a club and hit the ball most of the time, then you are good enough. None of us are “Pro Golfers” and probably never will be, but we still have fun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I became a member at Union Country Club, I played the game very badly. My game was one that is affectionately called “Army Golf”. You know the drill, Left-Right-Left-Right. When I finally broke 47 (no more than double bogie on each hole), I felt pretty good.
I was afraid to play in any of the Clubs events, so My Father-in Law and I would play when we could. On Oct. 30, 1993 (this was my first year membership), My Father-in-law and I were playing a round (probably the last one for that year), when on #9, I hit the best Tee shot I ever made. Solid contact, nice arc and it was headed right for the pin. We watched, as the ball hit the green and rolled out of sight. You guessed it, when we walked up to the #9 green, my ball was no where to be seen. I thought sure the ball must have rolled way off the green. My Father-in-law walked up to the pin and said, Here's your ball. You made a hole-n-one.”
I think the score I got for the round was something like 43 or 44. The next year I started playing in club events, Twilight League and other tournaments. I had a 12 handicap and played really bad golf but it was a lot of fun playing golf with the other members. Over the few years as a member I think I have won almost every tournament at least once and have trimmed my handicap down to a 6.
In 1996 I made my second hole in one on the #5 hole during Twilight League.
I have yet to shoot par for the course, but I have shot 31 a few times. My average round is 36-37 and sometimes I still get into the 40's.
The game of golf is a game of consistency, my game is consistently inconsistent.
Remember to post your scores (all of them) in the book at the club house so your handicap can be calculated properly. If you only post the better scores, you will have a lower handicap than you should have.
